TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – A man appeared in court on charges from an assault that left a woman in critical condition.

A judge set bond for 27-year-old Dahseir Edward Jefferson at $150,000.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 7.
Jefferson faces two counts of aggravated assault with temporary but substantial injury.
During court, the state said a detective told them one of the victims is not expected to make it, and that Jefferson will likely face a more serious charge.
The interim complaint shows the suspected incident happened July 24.
The document shows that during an argument, Jefferson punched a man in the face, which caused him to fall and hit his head on the sidewalk.
Jefferson is accused of also punching the woman in the face, which caused her to fall back and hit her head and knock her unconscious. The punch was so hard, it broke part of her dentures, and it flew out and hit the ground too.
The interim complaint shows the man suffered a cut under his eye, as well as some bruises.
The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition and immediately had surgery for a brain bleed.
The state said Jefferson has a violent criminal history, which is backed up by a 13 News records check.

In 2019, he was found guilty of third-degree burglary in that case. Two of the burglary charges were dismissed after he reached a plea deal.
In 2021, he was found guilty of aggravated assault with victim bound or restrained. A charge of aggravated assault with temporary disfigurement was dismissed.
He was sentenced to five years in prison in February 2021 and was released in October 2024.
While in prison, he was found guilty of disorderly conduct, weapon possession, tampering with a security or safety device, disobeying an order, possession of a communication device, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession or manufacture of an intoxicating substance.
