TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – A Tucson man has been accused of trying to burn down the church he attended.

Antonio Bernard Johnson was arrested Tuesday, July 28, on charges of arson and criminal damage. As of Friday, July 31, he was being held on a $20,000 bond.
According to the interim complaint, Johnson was caught on video setting fire to the front door of the Church of the Street, which is located near Park Avenue and 29th Street.
The Tucson Police Department confirmed no one was in the church at the time, and there were no injuries. The church suffered more than $1,000 in damages.
Crews from the Tucson Fire Department put out a large fire at the front door of the church, and a smaller fire at the back door.
Witness statements led investigators to Johnson, who was found near 24th and Tyndall.

Johnson claimed he was not involved in the fire, but he had singed leg and arm hair. When asked about it, he claimed he did it with a lighter.
He admitted he frequents the church daily, and knows it hosts services several times per day.
A witness said Johnson told them the church would not be open the next day because it had burned.
