GOODYEAR, AZ (AZFamily) — A 92-year-old former Maryland state trooper told his son he stabbed and killed his wife following an argument about missing investment documents in the West Valley, according to newly released court paperwork.

John Biggs Jr. is accused of fatally stabbing his wife, Jane Biggs, at their Goodyear home last week.
Court documents detail the events leading up to and following her death.
What led to the attack
Documents say John Biggs told investigators he and his wife argued on the night of Aug. 23 at their home on Amelia Drive, just south of Indian School Road and west of Bullard Avenue, because he believed she had taken his investment fund documents.
Around 11 p.m., after Jane Biggs denied taking them, John Biggs said he became “enraged” and stabbed her multiple times in the neck with a kitchen knife, police said.
John then reportedly went to the living room and swallowed a large number of sleeping pills in an apparent suicide attempt. Authorities also reported finding blood spatter on John Biggs’ clothes.
Their son found her body
The couple’s son, who lives out of state, told investigators he’d been getting strange, worrying calls and texts from his father. Concerned, he went to Arizona to check on him, arriving at the house around 1:30 p.m. the next day.
He found his father asleep in a recliner and woke him up, according to the court documents. The son went into the couple’s bedroom and found his mother dead, still in her nightgown on their blood-soaked bed. He then left the home and called 911.
Investigators said they recovered a kitchen knife with dried blood on it from the bedside table.
He’d grown suspicious of her for weeks
In the weeks leading up to the attack, Biggs told police he had become convinced his wife was working against him.
Documents say he accused her of deleting his friends’ phone numbers, sending them messages badmouthing him, and stealing his investment papers and a large sum of money from his accounts.
His son later told investigators that his father had seemed “overly paranoid or delusional” in the time before the attack.

Prosecutors noted Biggs also had a clean criminal history prior to the attack, and served 25 years as a Maryland state trooper.
Neighbors remember Jane Cook Biggs
Neighbors described Jane Cook Biggs as someone who welcomed people into the community.
“She was very outgoing, very, very friendly,” neighbor Yvonne Board said.
“She was very friendly, very involved in the community. She was with Kare Bears years ago. I mean, and then the theater,” Board said.
Neighbors said Jane helped build the community around her through Kare Bears in Pebble Creek, a group focused on neighbors helping neighbors.
“I think she was probably the first one I saw when I moved in here five years ago because she did the welcoming thing with Kare Bears,” Board said.
Neighbors and friends said they will remember a woman who brought welcome baskets and helped neighbors get to appointments.
“She was a very good, great person,” Board said.
Jane’s family said they are putting together a statement. They described their mom as a godly woman.
John Biggs was booked on charges of second-degree murder and aggravated assault, with bond set at $1 million.
