PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Corvin “Carvin” Keith Anthony Jones, the Phoenix-based guitarist known around the world as Carvin Jones and nicknamed the “King of Strings,” died early Sunday morning following a battle with prostate cancer. He was 60.

His family announced his passing on his website and Facebook page Monday morning.
Jones was born and raised in Lufkin, Texas, where he first fell in love with the blues listening to B.B. King records that his grandfather played at home. His grandmother bought him his first guitar when he was 7, and he never put it down.
He eventually moved out of the Lone Star State and settled in Phoenix, where he spent much of his life making music and built a devoted following of thousands on Facebook.
Jones first shared news of his cancer diagnosis with fans in April 2025 and documented his battle with the disease in the months that followed.
Onstage, Jones was known for leaving the microphone behind to play among the crowd. It was a habit that reflected what his family said was his deep love of connecting with people and turning every show into a shared experience. That same generosity defined his life offstage as well.

Basketball was Jones’s other great passion. He frequently sponsored and coached youth games around the Valley. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, he launched Carvin Cares, a community outreach project made to deliver groceries to elderly residents throughout the Valley.
“Our family is deeply grateful to everyone who supported Carvin during these last months,” his loved ones said in a statement. ”Your generosity meant so much to him and to us.”
The family said details of a celebration of life will be announced publicly at a later date.
