PEORIA, AZ (AZFamily) — A motorcyclist is seriously hurt after an unusual chain-reaction crash that began with a fire truck responding to another wreck in Peoria Thursday morning.

Shortly before 8 a.m., first responders were called to a crash involving a passenger vehicle and an empty parked construction vehicle near 79th Avenue and Olive Avenue, between Northern and Peoria avenues.
As a Peoria Fire truck moved to block traffic at the scene, a motorcyclist crashed into it, Peoria police said. The motorcycle then struck two other vehicles; it’s unclear whether the rider was run over in the process.
The motorcyclist, who police say was wearing a helmet, was taken to a hospital in critical condition. One other person was hospitalized, but their current condition is unknown at this time.

Two other people were evaluated by emergency responders, but declined to go to the hospital.
Drivers should avoid the area as authorities investigate both crashes.
