The bust is part of a broader push to boost security and surveillance along highways in Sonora, with Mexico’s military, National Guard and federal security forces working together on the effort.
The two men, whose names were not released, were taken into custody near the Mexico-U.S. border bridge in San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, directly across the international line from San Luis, Arizona. Investigators said they used intelligence gathering and technology to track down the pickup truck the men were driving.
Authorities say the two men were transporting approximately 105 pounds of methamphetamine, 62 pounds of cocaine, 26 pounds of opium gum, and 22 pounds of fentanyl, all hidden in different compartments of the vehicle.
Photos shared by Mexico’s Security Cabinet showed the massive amount of drugs wrapped in bundles inside the pickup.
