PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell publicly discussed the two officers charged for a violent traffic stop for the first time Thursday afternoon.

Mitchell said her team is reviewing all open and closed cases involving Antonio Felix and Luis Vasquez. She did not specify how many cases are under review, but both officers worked patrol for nearly a decade.
The two now-former Phoenix police officers are accused in a violent, unreported traffic stop on Aug. 5. Investigators found the officers repeatedly beat, tased and threatened a couple at gunpoint after forcefully removing them from their car during a violent, unreported traffic stop.
Both men have bonded out of jail while they await their next court appearance.
“We hold prosecutors, we hold police to a higher standard,” Mitchell said. “Any time there’s a potential that people have violated the trust of the community, I take it very seriously.”
The attorney’s office filed kidnapping, aggravated assault, criminal damage, threatening, tampering with evidence and hindering prosecution charges against the former officers. Mitchell said the two men were added to the Brady list, which is a database of law enforcement officers with credibility problems.
She said anyone who has information about this case or any similar cases involving the two former officers should contact the Phoenix Police Department.

The motive for the crimes remains a mystery. Officials said there’s no link between the victims and the former officers. Another issue is a lack of video evidence, as the fired officers did not turn on their body cameras, but Mitchell said they don’t need motive or video to prove the case.
Mitchell said this case is unprecedented during her time in office, but that it does not reflect the whole police department.
