BUCKEYE, AZ (AZFamily) — A Buckeye man now facing felony charges, including murder, says he fired to stop an attack during a chaotic overnight fight inside a Buckeye-area home, according to court documents released Friday.

Police said Jesus Adrian Lastra-Perez was in his bedroom at the home near 214th Avenue and McDowell Road when he heard the fighting downstairs and went to investigate.
The fight was happening in the kitchen and living room areas and Lastra-Perez told police two people were attacking his sister, pulling her hair and kicking and punching her in the face and body, court paperwork said.
He said the two people grabbed the sister’s head and slammed it against the ground. Lastra-Perez said the pair picked his sister up from the ground and prepared to slam her back down.
Investigators said that’s when Lastra-Perez pulled out a gun and told everyone to stop fighting. He then shot his gun one time, hitting a 17-year-old girl in the back.
Court documents said Lastra-Perez yelled at everyone to get out of the home while he was still recording on his phone. Lastra-Perez then fell to the ground near the front door, and David Washington, 36, was standing near him.
While Lastra-Perez was on the ground, Lastra-Perez said Washington placed his sister in a chokehold, court paperwork said.
Lastra-Perez stood up, pointed his gun at Washington and told him to release his sister, court documents said.
Washington tried to close the front door, and Lastra-Perez pushed the door open, causing Washington and his sister to fall on the stairs, documents say. Lastra-Perez said he still ordered Washington to release his sister.

Police said Lastra-Perez then shot at Washington and told him to let his sister go. When Washington didn’t, Lastra-Perez fired three to four rounds until Washington released his sister, detectives said.
Washington died at the scene, police said. The girl, who is Washington’s daughter, was taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Lastra-Perez then returned to his room, got a second gun and put it in his pocket with the intention of giving it to his sister for protection, police said.
But as he was leaving the home, officers arrived and arrested Lastra-Perez just before 1 a.m.
Police confirmed that Lastra-Perez is the son of Washington’s ex-wife, but it’s unclear what the relationship is between Lastra-Perez and the woman.
Lastra-Perez was booked into jail on charges of second-degree murder, endangerment, aggravated assault, discharging a firearm in city limits and disorderly conduct. His bond was set at $1 million, cash only.
