PHOENIX (AZFamily) — An Arizona woman has admitted to using a fake ultrasound image to lie about a former star of “The Bachelor” getting her pregnant in order to file a paternity lawsuit requesting child support.

Laura M. Owens pleaded guilty to two counts of fraudulent schemes and artifices, one count of perjury, and one count of taking the identity of another, according to court documents.
The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office began its investigation into Owens in July 2024 at the request of a Superior Court judge following proceedings in a paternity case.
Owens originally filed a lawsuit against “The Bachelor” star Clayton Echard seeking child support, but she made “several inconsistent statements” during a hearing, prosecutors said.
Investigators learned that between May 2023 and June 2024, Owens altered an ultrasound image and fabricated a pregnancy video. She then lied multiple times while under oath during hearings in the paternity case.

It’s unclear when Owens will be sentenced. She is facing similar charges in another paternity fraud case involving a separate victim.
Echard was “The Bachelor” during the show’s 2022 season.
