TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Former Cochise County Deputy Attorney Paul Correa found out his fate during a sentencing hearing in Bisbee on Tuesday, Aug. 4.

Correa was sentenced to probation for three years after pleading guilty to tampering with evidence. Charges of harassment by surveillance and public sexual indecency were dropped as part of the deal he reached with La Paz County Attorney Rachel Shackelford.
He has already served 79 days in jail, and won’t spend any more time behind bars unless he violates the terms of his probation. The judge ordered Correa to have a mental health examination, which includes a sex offender evaluation, but doesn’t mean he is a registered sex offender.

La Paz handled the prosecution of the case to avoid conflicts of interest as Correa was a former Cochise County employee.
Correa was arrested after an incident at a Target in Sierra Vista in December 2025.
The Sierra Vista Police Department said he followed a minor into the store and recorded her with his phone.
Stacey Greer told 13 News that her 12-year-old daughter was the victim and told her Correa had been following and recording her.
Jason Greer, the victim’s father, told investigators he walked up to Correa’s vehicle in the parking lot and caught him “watching a video of his daughter with his pants disheveled.”

Jason then blocked Correa’s vehicle in to wait until police arrived.
Correa was allowed to then drive to New Mexico, and it wasn’t until after he returned, about 15 hours later, that he was arrested.
Cochise County, who was fired the next day, had past run-ins with law enforcement, like speeding tickets and driving around a police barrier.
According to the Sierra Vista Herald, Correa was cited earlier in 2025 for allegedly driving around a police barricade.
According to the Arizona Daily Independent, Correa was sanctioned by a judge in a case involving a deed claim in 2023. The outlet reported that Correa allegedly told the county treasurer to ignore a judge’s order in the case.
