TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The Tucson woman who says she was assaulted by a stranger while sweeping her yard, says she felt like she was fighting for her life.

Mailie Marshall says the assault happened Friday morning, August 28, at her home near Himmel Park.
Marshall said she was sweeping her yard with the gate open because she was about to sweep out the leaves when a man made eye contact with her.
“I am traumatized, but I feel very encouraged by my community just because of the way everybody banded together and helped find this very violent man.”
She says before she knew it, that man was in her yard. She tried to fight him off with her broom.
“He walks through the gate, lifts his fist, I lift and go to swing and he just tackles me into a cactus. He’s straddling me, on top of me, repeatedly punching me in the face.”
Marshall told 13 News she flipped her body over to protect her head, but says the man would not stop punching her.
“My jaw took a lot of hits, my eye, I’m concussed. Thank the Lord I was screaming for help at the top of my lungs and a biker said he heard me from down the street screaming for help and he came back because he saw that same man walking and he yelled at him to get off of me.”
She said witnesses helped her while she waited for police. Marshall also credited police for taking her statement seriously and coming with her to the hospital where she was treated for a concussion, large facial bruise, and a large number of other bruises on her body.

Tucson Police arrested 44-year-old Henry Roberts, who made his initial court appearance late Saturday, Aug. 29.
He is facing two counts of aggravated assault.
Roberts was not found until the next day near River and Campbell.
His bond was set at $30,000.
Marshall said she now feels more vigilant but also doesn’t feel safe in her own neighborhood.
“I’m feeling very overwhelmed by everything, but also grateful that he’s caught.”
