TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly shooting Sunday morning in Saint David.

According to the CCSO, the Benson Police Department first responded to reports of a possible burglary in progress at a residential neighborhood.
When officers arrived, the homeowner explained that he was inside the house with his family when he heard what sounded like a window breaking. He checked his security system and noticed someone outside.
When the homeowner walked into his main living area, he saw a shadow near a window that appeared to be someone trying to break in. The homeowner told officers he was armed and fired his weapon and hit the person outside.
No one inside the home was injured, including two small children.
Officers found a 67-year-old man, who lived in Saint David, deceased at the scene. Benson Police officers attempted lifesaving measures, but they were unsuccessful.

Deputies are working to notify the man’s next of kin, and his identity is not being released at this time.
The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office is leading the active and ongoing investigation.
