KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT/Gray News) – A former Knoxville police officer accused of inappropriately touching a deceased woman’s body has been indicted.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, agents began investigating Shigeki Nagamoto, 38, in June.
Nagamoto was employed by the Knoxville Police Department at the time.
The TBI said evidence indicated that in December 2024, while at the scene of a reported death, Nagamoto exposed and inappropriately touched part of a deceased woman’s body.

On Wednesday, a Knox County Grand Jury indicted Nagamoto on one count of abuse of a corpse.
Nagamoto turned himself in later that night and was booked into the Knox County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
