PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ (AZFamily) — The mayor of Prescott Valley got in legal trouble in the neighboring town’s bar when police say a dispute turned physical Sunday.

Prescott police said Kell Palguta, 49, sat down next to a man’s spouse at the Bird Cage Saloon on Whiskey Row around 4 p.m. while the man was gone. When the man returned, he got upset, and he and Palguta exchanged words.
As Palguta got up and moved away, the man tried to pull a bar stool back to where he had been sitting before Palguta sat down.
Palguta came back, put his drink on the bar and grabbed the bar stool with both hands, pulling it away from the man, police said.
Palguta then grabbed the man’s shoulder and arm and pushed him toward the bar, police said.
Saloon workers intervened and broke it up.
Police said they received a call about what happened Monday around 1:15 p.m.
Officers said they issued a criminal citation to Palguta for misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct.

Palguta, who was first elected as Prescott Valley mayor in 2018, said Thursday in a Facebook post that he is aware of the charges and thanked Prescott police for their professionalism.
“They have a job to do, and I respect that responsibility and the legal process that follows,” Palguta said. “Because this is now an active legal matter, I will not debate the details through social media or the court of public opinion. There will be an appropriate time and place for the complete circumstances surrounding the incident to be addressed.”
