SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — An older woman was hospitalized with burns Monday evening after a fire ripped through a Scottsdale apartment.

Firefighters were called out to the complex on Heatherbrae Avenue, near 78th Street and Indian School Road, around 5:30 p.m.
When they arrived, flames were coming from the bedroom. Crews started aggressively fighting the fire and rescued the woman.
She had burns and trouble breathing and was taken to a nearby burn center. Firefighters said she is in stable condition.
Firefighters said clutter made it harder for them to move through the apartment. They also said there was no working smoke alarm inside the home.

Investigators said the woman was burning sage in her home while wearing oxygen.
Another person at the complex was treated for breathing in smoke but did not go to the hospital.
No firefighters were hurt.
Only the woman is displaced.
It was unclear what sparked the flames.
