TOWN OF LERAY, New York (WWNY/Gray News) – New York authorities say a couple faces charges after a toddler was brought to the hospital with bruises, scratches and marks around her neck.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Zachery Fenton, 32, and his girlfriend, Hannah Ramsey, 25, were taken into custody Monday.
Officials said an investigation started after Ramsey brought her 3-year-old daughter to Samaritan Medical Center last month, where staff became suspicious of the child’s injuries.

Charges were brought against Fenton that included assault, strangulation, criminal obstruction of breathing and endangering the welfare of a child, investigators said. Ramsey was charged with child endangerment.
The couple was arraigned on their charges. Child protective services are also involved in the case.
