TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Three people have been accused of stealing hundreds of thousands from a Tucson charter school to fund vacations, trips to casinos, plastic surgery, luxury goods, jewelry, and improvements to their home.

According to Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes, Jason Edward Riegert, Staci Barton, and Kimberly Richards were indicted on July 27 following a long investigation.
Riegert is the former Executive Director of Academy Del Sol, and Barton is his wife. Richards was an office administrator at the school, according to Mayes.
Academy Del Sol is a fine arts charter school with two locations — 7102 West Valley Crest Place and 732 West Roger Road.
Mayes said that the alleged crime happened from Jan. 24, 2018 until Dec. 12, 2024.
Riegert and Barton are accused of spending the stolen funds on several things, including trips to casinos, jewelry and craft stones, a luxury steakhouse in Phoenix, vacations to New York City, Las Vegas, and Hawaii, plastic surgery, a 2020 Cadillac Escalade, luxury clothing, and rennovations and improvements to their personal home.
They also allegedly created a fake company called Platinum Educational Solutions, which they claimed provided student support services. Investigators said no such company existed.

According to the indictment, Jason Riegert is facing 22 counts, including conspiracy, illegally conducting an enterprise, theft, misappropriation of charter school funds, computer tampering, fraud of more than $100,000, and forgery.
Staci Barton is facing 17 counts, including conspiracy, theft, misappropriation of charter school funds, fraud of more than $100,000, and forgery
Both Riegert and Barton are being held in the Pima County Adult Detention Complex on $250,000 bonds.
Richards is facing 20 charges, including conspiracy, illegally conducting an enterprise, computer tampering, fraud of more than $100,000, and forgery. As of Tuesday, Sept. 8, she was not in custody in Pima County.
