Man accused of killing cousin during fight over how hot enchiladas were

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (Gray News) — A man is accused of killing his cousin during an argument about the spice level of the enchiladas they were having for dinner.

According to online jail records, 22-year-old Ervin Gutierrez is charged with first-degree murder.

KOB reported that Albuquerque police officers were called to the Copper Hills apartments for a shooting Friday night.

KOAT reported that police said Gutierrez got into a fight with his cousin, 25-year-old Nathaniel Cavazos. The argument reportedly started when Gutierrez claimed that the green chiles in his enchiladas were too hot.

KOAT reported that Cavazos tried to walk away, but Gutierrez pulled out a gun and shot Cavazos.

Cavazos was pronounced dead at the scene.

Online jail records show Gutierrez was booked into the Albuquerque Metropolitan Detention Center early Saturday morning.
