PHOENIX (Phoenix Rising) – Rising is saying thank you to the people who show up for the Valley every single day. On Saturday, Sept. 12, Phoenix Rising Stadium hosts First Responders Night as the club welcomes FC Tulsa for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

The match is dedicated to the police officers, firefighters, paramedics, dispatchers, and emergency personnel who keep the community safe 24/7/365.

“These are the people who run toward danger when others run away,” a club spokesperson said. “They serve our community and help people through what is often some of their worst experiences. Saturday night, Rising is giving Valley residents the chance to celebrate our first responders and show the appreciation they richly deserve.”

More than a match night

The giveaway matches the theme: the first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive their own superhero cape as a nod to the “everyday superheroes” being honored.

“I love that Rising really leans into these theme nights rather than just slapping a name on the schedule,” fan Jenni Alvarez said. “Walking in with a cape on, high-fiving an off-duty firefighter or police officer is the kind of thing that makes you want to bring the whole family. I’m teaching my kids that these people who put it on the line for all of us every day deserve extra respect and appreciation. It’s good for them to see that organizations like Rising and the players who are role models feel the same way and are willing to show it.”

“My wife is a paramedic and Saturday night, the stadium is going to feel like it’s for her,” Marisol T. said. “We’re going to be LOUD!”

A team worth watching

Rising heads into September on a strong stretch at home, having knocked off Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Aug. 19 before battling to a 2-2 road draw at Sacramento Republic FC, and then coming back home for a 2-1 victory over Indy Eleven on Aug. 29.

“The fight and the work, this is what we need the remainder of the season from the boys,” Head Coach Pa-Modou Kah said after that match. “They were fantastic and taking seven out of nine (points) for the last three games, I think that shows the character of the team.”

The club’s own match log shows a season built on tight results, including plenty of one-goal decisions and draws, which has kept the Western Conference race close heading into the fall stretch.

“There’s nothing like 38^th and Washington when the stands are full,” longtime Rising fan Tino Osei said. “Add a cape giveaway and a first responders tribute, and honestly, I’m already planning my sign!”
