TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – For the fifth time in two months, an inmate has died at the Pima County Adult Detention Complex.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said 40-year-old Rena E. Parra was found unresponsive on Aug. 26. She did not survive.
The PCSD said Parra was arrested by Arizona DPS on several warrants the day before.
According to records checks, Parra did not have a criminal history in Pima County and had not spent time in the state prison system.
While PCSD says the death does not appear to be suspicious, 13 News has requested the autopsy and toxicology reports for Parra.
As 13 News has reported several times, overdose deaths continue to be a problem in Pima County and across the country.
41% of Pima County’s opioid overdose deaths from January 2026 to May 2026 involved people who had been released from jail within the last five years.
It is the fifth inmate death at the county jail since June 11.
On Aug. 3, 39-year-old Jesus M. Tapia was found unresponsive in his cell.
Tapia had been arrested by the Tucson Police Department on Aug. 1. He was being held on a $3,000 bond on shoplifting and organized retail theft charges, and also had misdemeanor arrest warrants.
13 News has requested the autopsy and toxicology reports for Tapia.
On July 17, 43-year-old David Villavicencio died after he was found unresponsive in his cell.

He had been booked into the complex a few hours earlier on drug-related charges filed by the Tucson Police Department.
13 News has requested the autopsy and toxicology reports for Villavicencio.
On June 16, 35-year-old John Russell Thrasher IV died after he was found unresponsive in his cell.
According to the autopsy report, the cause of death was mixed drug toxicity, and the manner of death was accidental. He had a history of drug use and hypertension. According to the tox report, he had fentanyl, meth, weed, caffeine, and naloxone in his system.
On June 11, 62-year-old Raymond Lee Davis died after he was found unresponsive in his cell.
The PCSD said Davis’ death appeared to be from a medical issue.
According to the autopsy report, the cause of death was hypertension and hardening of the arteries, and the manner of death was natural. Davis, who had a history of hypertension, arthritis, and drug use, did not have any illegal drugs in his system when he died.
