TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – A former San Carlos Apache Police Officer has been indicted on two federal crimes: use of excessive force and falsification of another officer’s report.

The Department of Justice said 29-year-old Jacob Christopher Slawson faces charges of deprivation of rights under color of law and falsification of records.
The DOJ said that after a suspect was handcuffed and in the back of the police car, Slawson punched them in the face and yanked them out of the car, leading to the arrestee splitting his head open on the concrete.
The indictment alleges that after Slawson learned he was under investigation, he added false and misleading information to another officer’s report to try and obstruct the investigation.

Slawson is facing up to 30 years in prison.
