Body of 16-year-old girl found at her home 2 weeks after she went missing, deputies say

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ/Gray News) — Investigators in West Virginia said they found the body of a missing 16-year-old girl who was last seen two weeks ago.

Shayln Harvey had been missing since May 4, the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies said they were executing a search warrant at Shayln’s home Friday, where they found human remains with the help of K-9 cadaver dogs.

An autopsy was performed Monday morning, and deputies said the remains were positively identified as Shayln.

Deputies said they are still waiting for completed findings from the medical examiner to determine a cause of death.

The investigation is ongoing. However, the sheriff’s office said the death is being investigated as a homicide.
