SOMERS, Conn. (WFSB/Gray News) – A man is under arrest and another is dead following an early-morning home invasion this week in Connecticut.

State police said Joshua Freitag, 33, has been charged with murder, home invasion and two counts of risk of injury to a child.
Connecticut authorities said Freitag was taken into custody after 4 a.m. Tuesday following a disturbance call for shots being fired.
According to an arrest warrant, the 33-year-old forced his way into the home that morning before shooting Mark Morgan, who was in one of the bedrooms.
Freitag’s estranged wife and two children were also at the house when the reported home invasion occurred and were not harmed, authorities said.
The arrest warrant noted that the two men had a history of conflict before Tuesday’s shooting, including Freitag sending text messages to the woman about Morgan possibly being at the home.
Authorities said Freitag had told the woman that he saw Morgan’s vehicle in the driveway, while the woman denied he was there.
Detectives said Freitag got into the home through a broken rear sliding door, went upstairs and shot Morgan.

Troopers found Morgan unresponsive inside an upstairs bedroom. They said he appeared to have been shot multiple times.
The woman and two children were escorted from the property.
Freitag was said to be at the front door of the home when authorities arrived and complied with troopers’ commands.
Public court records showed that Freitag’s wife filed for divorce earlier this month. However, state police did not say whether the divorce was related to the home invasion case.
Freitag appeared in court on Wednesday. His defense team said that he is still the owner of the home and is financially supporting the children who lived there with his estranged wife.
According to the woman, Freitag was not living in the home at the time of the break-in and shooting.
Freitag’s bond was set at $1.5 million. His defense team argued for a lower amount, saying the shooting was personal and that he is not a threat to the public.

Protective orders were issued for the woman and the children.
Freitag’s next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 18.
