MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — Two people are safe after being rescued from a house fire that started in the carport of an East Valley home Thursday.

Around noon, first responders were called to a reported fire in a neighborhood in the area of University Drive and Dobson Road in Mesa.
When firefighters arrived, they found a vehicle parked under the carport had caught fire, which then spread to the home, according to Mesa Fire Department crews on the scene.
Firefighters entered the home and rescued two people who were unaware the fire had broken out but had been overcome by smoke. Neither person was injured.
The two residents were displaced, and crews worked to recover valuables from the home, including medications, as they find a safe place to live.

Arizona’s Family crews on scene saw extensive damage to a car and boat under the carport. Firefighters cut ventilation holes in the roof as part of their suppression efforts.
