MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — A 3-year-old boy is in the hospital after being found in a backyard above-ground pool near Mesa Thursday afternoon.

It happened on Signal Butte Road near University Drive just after noon.
Rural Metro Fire officials said the boy was not breathing, was unconscious and had no pulse when first responders arrived at the house.
Firefighters said the boy did have a pulse when he arrived at the hospital, but firefighters did not say what his condition was.
It’s unclear who was watching the boy, whether the pool had a fence and how long he was in the water.
