Severe Thunderstorm Watch for all of Southeast Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – This evening is looking like an active one. There is a Severe Thunderstorm Watch valid now through 10pm for Pima, Pinal, Graham, Greenlee, Cochise, and Santa Cruz Counties. Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and Flash Flood Warnings are likely to pop up throughout the afternoon and evening. Also, there is a Blowing Dust Advisory valid for most of the viewing area outside of the higher elevations. With strong storms kicking up dust, Dust Storm Warnings are likely this evening as well. Visibility will be reduced causing hazardous driving conditions where this blowing dust occurs. Also, that Air Quality Alert in Pinal County is still valid today because of dust in the air creating high pollution.

Storm threats tonight are tied to wind and flooding. Winds could exceed 70 mph this evening which can be damaging. That will also kick up dust leading to our blowing dust concerns and reduced visibility. Flash Flooding is possible throughout most of Southern Arizona tonight as heavy rainfall is expected. That’s especially true in Cochise and Santa Cruz who have already seen rain the past few days and now have potential to see rainfall rates tonight around 1-2″ an hour. Hail is also possible with these storms.

More rain and storm chances tomorrow and Monday, then slightly lowered rain/storm chances into next week. Overall, temperatures are dropping with 90s expected much of next week.
