Woman arrested in connection with deadly 2024 pedestrian crash in Goodyear

GOODYEAR, AZ (AZFamily) — A woman is facing reckless manslaughter charges after police say she hit and killed a man while driving in Goodyear two years ago.

On Thursday, Vanessa Marie Amaro, 19, was arrested on an outstanding felony warrant during a traffic stop in connection with the deadly crash that happened on May 27, 2024.

The victim, 25-year-old Devin Firth, was walking home from a friend’s house in a neighborhood near Cotton Lane and Yuma Road when he was hit. He was rushed to a hospital, where he later died, police said.

Amaro, who was a minor at the time, was likely speeding, according to Goodyear police. She stayed at the scene and cooperated with officers, police said.
