LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ (AZFamily) — Two dogs and a cat were killed in an early-morning house fire Thursday in Lake Havasu City, officials said.

The fire was reported around 2:35 a.m. near Jody Drive and James Drive, just south of the Lake Havasu City Airport.
Officials said a neighbor smelled smoke and saw the home burning. They alerted the occupants and called 911, then tried to rescue the family’s pets but couldn’t because of the intense flames.
Firefighters brought the fire under control within 17 minutes and contained it to the home.

No one was home at the time, and no injuries were reported to the residents. Two dogs and a cat were found dead. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
