The $53.4 million project is intended to improve safety and traffic flow by creating a new Irvington Road bridge, widening part of Irvington Road and I-19 on-ramps, adding a 12-foot-wide pedestrian ramp and more.

ADOT says the project is estimated to take 20 months and will be completed by spring 2028.

The initial restrictions will start on July 16, beginning with barriers, a temporary pedestrian crossing, and restriping the roadway to shift traffic.

ADOT said that from 9:00 p.m. to 5: 00 a.m. Irvington Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction with a 12-foot vehicle width restriction.

During the reconstruction, ADOT will maintain two lanes of travel in both directions of I-19 and of Irvington during peak travel time and will maintain access to local businesses.

The reconstruction will occur in phases, with more details announced as work approaches, but drivers can expect short-term closures to come about later in the project.
