The roof came down just before noon on Cave Creek Road near Greenway Road, affecting a Latin American restaurant and a hookah lounge.
Surveillance video from Twisted Swag, a business across the street, shows the roofline beginning to tremble before giving way and crashing to the ground in an instant.
Debris from roof tiles and wooden support beams remained stretched across the sidewalk and entry area for several hours. Phoenix Fire blocked off the area to stabilize the building and ensure everyone got out safely.
Two cars were damaged in the collapse. They belonged to the owner and son of the Latin American restaurant.
Darya Todd, owner of a salon steps away from the collapse, said the damage was shocking.

“What I heard was a very loud boom. It sounds like two trucks crushing together, so I ran to the door and I noticed that the yellow car, the window was smashed,” Todd said. “I immediately grabbed my daughter and ran out the door.”
It’s unclear what caused the collapse.
