TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Broadway in Tucson will have a new production coming to town in August: Hell’s Kitchen.

The musical features music from Alicia Keys and is a coming-of-age story focusing on a girl living in New York as she discovers her passion for music.
Behind-the-scenes, acting in a Broadway tour is not easy. Sydney Townsend, a swing for the musical, has to be prepared to go on at any moment.
“Once I’m out of the curtain and people can see me, I’m now that character,” Townsend said. “You have to know when to switch it on and switch it off.”

Townsend graduated from the University of Arizona in 2025 and is now acting in her first Broadway show.
Townsend joined 13 News’ Devyn Shea on Tucson Now to talk about it.
