Father of infant allegedly killed by 10-year-old arrested

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4/Gray News) – The father of an infant killed by a 10-year-old in St. Louis was arrested in connection with her death.

Ca’Marion Pawnell, 19, was charged with one count of second-degree felony murder, one count of endangering the welfare of a child resulting in death, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child creating substantial risk.

According to police, Pawnell is Kiyomi Parker’s father. She was 7 months old when she was shot and later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police said the shooting happened June 26 in the Baden neighborhood.

Witnesses said a 10-year-old picked up a gun and shot Parker.

A 7-year-old child was also inside the home at the time of the shooting.

As officers spoke more with witnesses, including the 10-year-old, they learned that Pawnell stored a gun underneath a mattress in a bedroom.

The 10-year-old allegedly said he knew where the gun was and that it was accessible to him for an extended period of time, according to court documents. He also allegedly said he had taken the gun out and touched it before.

Court documents state that when police spoke with Pawnell, he said the gun was his, and he had placed it underneath the mattress as the 10-year-old had described.

Pawnell is being held without bond.

The 10-year-old who is accused of pulling the trigger was charged with first-degree murder in juvenile court.

Based on First Alert 4’s research, he appears to be the youngest person in Missouri history to be charged with murder.
