Trials for remaining suspects in deadly Tucson shooting pushed back

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The trials for the two remaining suspects in the fatal shooting of University of Arizona student Erin Jones in 2024 have been pushed back.

Motion hearings were held today, June 25, for Estevan Garcia, and Akeem Alvarez.

The judge approved a motion to reschedule their trials.

Garcia was scheduled to stand trial July 15 and Alvarez was scheduled for August 18.

Both of those dates have been vacated and new dates will be discussed at a hearing July 10.

Tevion Matthew Beale has already received 12 years, with credit for 714 days served. He also got probation for five years after pleading guilty to drive-by shooting and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Marcus Ian Williams, 19, received 14 years in prison and probation for five years when he was sentenced in April 2026. He also pleaded guilty to drive-by shooting and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Williams, Beale, Estevan Garcia, and Akeem Alvarez were all arrested for the shooting that killed Jones and injured three others on April 28, 2024. Garcia and Alvarez are both facing murder charges.

The shooting happened during a house party in the 3200 block of East 5th Street around 1:40 a.m. The home is near Country Club and Alvernon.

The Tucson Police Department said the 20-year-old Jones was found shot and died at a local hospital. Three other people — a man, a woman, and a teen girl — were also injured but survived.
