On June 6, deputies with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a complaint of dogs roaming a street in search of water. The dogs were believed to have come from an encampment near 373rd Avenue and Durango Street, in rural Tonopah, officials said.

Deputies went to the area and advised the residents of their responsibilities to provide the animals with water and allowed them to fix the problem.

Then, on Tuesday, detectives with the animal crimes unit went to the property for a follow-up visit and found the dogs were still without water despite an extreme heat warning in the area, officials said.
