Jean Gragg, 40, died over the weekend after police say she was shot in the head.

Authorities said the shooting occurred last Wednesday in an east-side South Bend neighborhood.

According to police, Gragg’s son set up a meeting that night with a man, later identified as 18-year-old John Harrison Ford, whom he had met online through Facebook Marketplace about selling a watch.

The son told police that Ford ended up pulling out a gun while he was looking at the watch and tried snatching it from him.

Gragg then got in between Ford and her son and chased the 18-year-old away from the family home.

However, police said Ford, as seen in security video, began shooting toward Gragg after she had turned around and was heading back to the house.

The 40-year-old mother was struck in the head and critically injured at the scene. First responders took her to a nearby hospital, but authorities said she ultimately died.

During an interview with detectives, Ford reportedly admitted to shooting Gragg.

Charging documents state that Ford is facing robbery and murder charges stemming from the shooting.

Loved ones have since started a GoFundMe in Gragg’s honor to help support her family.
