SURPRISE, AZ (AZFamily) — What started as a ruff situation for a puppy in the West Valley ended with the furry friend being safely freed.

A Surprise veterinary clinic asked for help after the pup got its head stuck in the center of a car’s wheel rim. The dog had been trapped for a long time in the heat.
Firefighters from the Arizona Fire & Medical Authority and the Surprise Fire-Medical Department arrived and found the dog in bad shape.
Crews said they needed special equipment to work through the wheel-y challenging rescue.
Photos posted of the rescue show firefighters using multiple tools to cut through the tire and rim.

Officials said the puppy also received oxygen during the rescue.
The rescue had a paw-sitive ending, with officials saying the puppy was freed and is expected to be OK.
