SOMERTON, AZ (AZFamily) — A Yuma County middle school teacher was arrested this week after authorities say she brought a bag of methamphetamine onto campus.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to Somerton Middle School on Monday afternoon for the drug-related incident.
Deputies were initially told that a staff member found a personal bag described as a makeup bag, and when they looked inside to figure out whose the bag belonged to, the staff member saw a plastic bag containing an unknown substance.
School staff turned the bag over to its Yuma County Sheriff’s Office school resource officer, who identified the substance as meth.
After searching the bag again, teacher Deana Lynn Salter, 55, of Yuma was found to be its owner. The resource officer later arrested her. No students were involved in this incident, the sheriff’s office said.
Yuma County Narcotics Task Force agents took over the investigation and found that the bag contained about 4.35 grams of meth.

Salter was booked on charges of possession of dangerous drugs in a drug-free zone, possession of dangerous drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and reckless child/vulnerable adult abuse.
