PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A United Airlines flight inbound to Phoenix was forced to make an emergency landing as severe weather swept across the Valley late Monday night.

A spokesperson with United Airlines said Flight 2078 from Houston to Phoenix made an emergency landing at Luke Air Force Base in Glendale. Officials say it was the “safest course of action” due to severe weather.
The aircraft crew worked with air traffic controllers to safely land the plane on the base. From there, the airline arranged buses to take passengers to Sky Harbor Airport to finish their trip.
Officials say 154 passengers and six crewmembers were onboard the flight. The aircraft is expected to be flown without passengers from Luke Air Force Base back to Houston on Tuesday.
“We’re grateful for the support from the Air Force and our teams at Phoenix Sky Harbor for finding a solution for our customers on this flight,” the airline said in a statement.

Rain and strong winds moved into the Valley on Monday night, disrupting air travel and knocking out power to thousands of people. Winds hit 68 mph near Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.
A ground stop was temporarily issued for some flights, and many were delayed an average of 45 minutes.
