TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – A Tucson man has been accused of stealing his late mother’s Social Security benefits.

48-year-old Ruffin Alford III is facing a charge of theft of government money.
In the indictment, it is alleged that between October 2020 and August 2025, Alford III collected $104,013 in Social Security benefits that were issued to his dead mother’s bank account.
Alford will appear in federal court on Sept. 25 and, if convicted, could face a 10-year prison sentence and a $250,000 fine.
