SUN CITY, AZ (AZFamily) — A man is in custody after authorities say he hit a state trooper with his car in Sun City early Friday morning, then fled to a Youngtown home.

It began just after 1:30 a.m., when a trooper stopped a driver suspected of DUI near Grand Avenue and 113th Avenue in Sun City. The driver reportedly stopped before taking off again, hitting the trooper and throwing him to the ground, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
The trooper is expected to be OK.
Authorities with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, Buckeye Police Department and El Mirage Police Department helped track the driver to a home in Youngtown. DPS SWAT teams served a search warrant at that home and took a 27-year-old man into custody.
Authorities say he suffered serious self-inflicted wounds and was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

The suspect, who was not publicly identified, faces charges including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, failure to comply and criminal damage.
