TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The first suspect identified in the murder of a Tucson Police recruit, and the shooting of the recruit’s fiancé, appeared in court this morning, August 25.

Alex James Barnett was ordered to be held without bond.
He faces charges of first degree murder, armed robbery and aggravated assault.
He was arrested Monday night, August 24, after the Pima County Sheriff’s Department served a search warrant at an apartment complex near Camino Seco and Broadway in connection to last week’s murder of TPD recruit Carlos Ramirez.
The PCSD says the Pima Regional SWAT Team responded to the apartment complex about 6:00 p.m.
Barnett surrendered after a three hour standoff.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department says no one was hurt during the standoff and some nearby apartments were evacuated as a precaution.

The judge set August 31 as the date of a bond eligibility hearing for Barnett.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 1.
