PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Phoenix Police have released newly public surveillance video of a person connected to the 2018 killing of Matthew Groves.

Police said the person seen in the video may have information about Groves’ shooting death near 51st Avenue and Indian School Road on July 21, 2018.

Police said there was a brief struggle between Groves and an unknown man when Groves was shot. Groves died at the hospital.
The video shows a man wearing a dark T-shirt and jeans about 20 minutes before the shooting.
Anyone who could identify the person in the video is asked to call the Phoenix Police Department or Silent Witness at (480)WITNESS, or for Spanish, (480)TESTIGO.

Groves’ mother told Arizona’s Family in 2022 that the family has been heartbroken since the shooting, but they were also angry that whoever killed her son hasn’t been held accountable.
Phoenix Police arrested a suspect in 2018; however, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office dropped the charges, claiming there wasn’t enough evidence to convict that person.
