COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS/Gray News) – A mother has been arrested after her 6-year-old was found Tuesday with a loaded gun on a school bus, according to authorities in South Carolina.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department said a resource officer at JP Thomas Elementary School was called around 7:30 a.m. after it was discovered the child had a loaded gun on the bus.
The gun was taken away from the child.
Deputies then arrested the child’s mother, 35-year-old Destar Hall, after she was called to the school.

The sheriff’s department said it was found that the gun was not properly secured in the home.
The gun was later identified as an AR pistol with .556 rounds.
Hall was arrested and charged with unlawful conduct towards a child.
Hall was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where she is awaiting a bond hearing.
