PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A west Phoenix road became an active crime scene overnight after a man was found dead following reports of shots fired.

Just after midnight, Phoenix police received reports of shots fired near 105th Drive and Wood Street, northeast of 107th Avenue and Broadway Road. As officers were on their way, they received another call about a person in the road near 103rd Avenue and Broadway Road.
When police arrived at the scene, they found the man dead along Broadway Road. Police later identified him as 20-year-old Mark Carmel.
The vehicle involved in the crash was found, and authorities detained two people for questioning.
Phoenix police said Wednesday evening that their initial investigation found that a group of people started fighting, which escalated into shots being fired, near 105th Drive and Wood Street.

Carmel was in the area during the fight and shooting, police said, and one of the involved vehicles dragged him to 103rd Avenue and Broadway Road.
A cause of death for Carmel has not been identified.
