(Gray News) – A Texas inmate was sentenced to 10 years in prison and a lifetime of supervised release after he pleaded guilty to trying to sex traffic a woman in Utah while he was behind bars.

Aaron Kern admitted to threatening a woman in an “unrelenting effort” to sex traffic her, contacting her more than 1,800 times through a phone and tablet, according to records.
Authorities said he developed a relationship with the woman and tried to recruit her to prostitution and keep the money earned, claiming the woman owed him money from the phone calls and tablet visits.
Kern planned to traffic her in Utah and, once he was released from prison, in Texas.

Authorities said he threatened her when she was hesitant, at one point telling her, “You are going to have a lot of days where you are drinking through a straw.”
Law enforcement found an online ad for prostitution that Kern ordered the woman to place. They also found a handwritten contract in his cell that he intended for her to sign, and handwritten journal entries about how he needed to break her down.
