GOODYEAR, AZ (AZFamily) — A Goodyear family is trying to lay their loved one to rest after she was murdered, allegedly by her husband, but they say they are facing another roadblock.

The family of 89-year-old Jane Biggs wants her cremated and brought back to Maryland, but they say getting that done has become more complicated because the man accused of killing her has to sign off on it.
Her husband, John Biggs Jr., a 92-year-old former Maryland state trooper who went by Jack, is accused of killing her.
“But we witnessed the brutal, cowardly killing of my mom, for what reason? We don’t know and never will,” Michael Cook, Jane’s son, said.
Family remembers Jane Biggs
Before marrying Jack, Jane’s family said she spent decades building a life in Arizona, working at the theatre, helping run a church thrift shop and assisting neighbors.
“I think he was a very controlling man,” Cook said. “It was all about Jack.”
Jane’s sister said Jane was her best friend.
“We used to do everything together until Jack came in the picture,” Carole Pierie said.
“Knowing that she had pain and fear, that saddens me more than anything,” Pierie added.
What court documents say
Court documents say John Biggs Jr. admitted to stabbing Jane in the neck during what he claims was an argument over investment documents and money. The family questions that account.

“What he invested, there was no going back and forth. Mom couldn’t take from him, and he couldn’t take from her,” Cook said.
Cremation authorization delayed
The family says they are also dealing with a legal issue over Jane’s cremation, explaining that questions remain over who can authorize it.
“I’ve been the power of attorney for a long time, 20 or more years, and when Jack came into her life, there was a medical power of attorney that put him first, me second, my sister third,” Cook said.
Biggs is behind bars, facing second-degree murder, and is due back in court Friday. Jane’s family says they have to wait another week before a medical examiner or coroner can sign off on the cremation authorization without his signature.
