CHANDLER, AZ (AZFamily) — A violent fight escalated to a man allegedly shooting and killing his brother at a Chandler apartment complex last week.

Vincent Verbick is facing charges of second-degree murder and aggravated assault in connection with the alleged crime.
On Friday morning, Chandler police were called to the shooting at the Sky at Chandler Airpark Apartments, near McQueen and Germann roads. Court documents state a family member called 911 and said Vincent was bleeding and had shot his brother, Simon.
Officers arrived at the scene and found Vincent on the back patio, where he told police he “shot his brother and doesn’t know if he’s alive,” court paperwork states. Investigators searched the apartment and found the victim lying motionless on the bathroom floor next to four shell casings.
Emergency crews attempted to save Simon, but he died at the scene.
Authorities found four bullet holes in the bathroom wall and noted that Vincent had blood and cuts all over his body, according to police.
Investigators interviewed a neighbor who saw the men the night before. Court documents state that the neighbor told police that he confronted Simon, who was intoxicated. The neighbor reportedly said Simon hit him, grabbed him by the neck, and pushed him back. He was able to escape and return to his apartment.
The neighbor texted Vincent and asked if everything was alright when he heard “gunshots and saw a bullet come through his common wall,” court paperwork describes.
Another neighbor reported hearing the two brothers arguing throughout the night and seeing Simon taking items out of the apartment and putting them in his car, according to police.
Authorities also interviewed the family member who called 911. The family member told police that the two men were drinking on and off and both seemed to be getting along. However, in the early morning hours, he reportedly heard banging on the apartment walls and the two men arguing, according to investigators. The family member recalled hearing doors opening, glass shattering, and items being thrown around before gunshots rang out.

In an interview with police, Vincent told authorities that he shot his brother after he attacked him. He said that his brother had been staying at the apartment for a few months and was a heavy drinker, police said.
Vincent said a neighbor had stopped by with hamburgers when his brother got angry, pushing the neighbor into the wall and onto the ground, court paperwork states. After the neighbor left, Vincent said his brother was still angry and being hostile.
Court documents state Vincent told police he went to his bedroom to sleep when his brother came in and slapped him in the face. Simon reportedly started punching Vincent in the face and grabbed him by the neck when Vincent told him to leave and that he was “no longer welcome in the apartment.”
Vincent said this happened three or four times. But on the last time, his brother came into his bedroom, pulled him off the bed, threw him on the ground and began kicking and punching him. Simon reportedly threw a table at his brother, leading Vincent to grab a gun from his dresser, court paperwork states.
Police say Vincent fired once as Simon had his back turned, striking him in the back of his shoulder. Simon reportedly charged at his brother when Vincent fired again at Simon, striking him multiple times in the chest.
Vincent Verbick is being held on a $1 million bond.
