TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The Pima County Sheriff’s Department responded to a fatal E-Bike crash at South Palo Verde Road and East 44th Street on Sept. 20.

The PCSD said at approximately 9:15 a.m., deputies arrived at the crash and learned that the driver, 33-year-old Maya Ortiz, had failed to stop at a stop sign and hit the bicyclist.
The bicyclist, identified as 63-year-old Vincent Duran, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.

Deputies said Ortiz was cited for failing to stop at the stop sign and is facing charges of causing serious physical injury or death from a moving violation.

The investigation is still ongoing, but deputies said Ortiz was not impaired.
