CHANDLER, AZ (AZFamily) — All officers are OK after a police officer shot and killed a man who was waving a gun near a Chandler convenience store Thursday afternoon, police said.

Chandler Police said officers were called to the area near the Circle K at Dobson and Warner roads around 3:30 p.m.
Two officers arrived and saw 22-year-old Romero Anthony Hernandez waving his gun in different directions, Chandler Police Officer Marysol Green said.
Green said the officers told Hernandez to drop the gun but he ignored the commands.
That’s when Green said one of the officers fired once, hitting Hernandez and causing him to drop his gun.

Hernandez was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
Green said police found a gun nearby and a gun in Hernandez’s waistband.
The police officer who shot Hernandez has been with the department for three years.
The Mesa Police Department is investigating the shooting.
This is the 31st officer-involved shooting in the Valley so far this year and the 57th overall in the state, according to Arizona’s Family numbers.
