Bella Torres said she was getting ready to go “Trunk or Treating” with her kids in the Verrado area Friday night. Her husband, dressed up as “Shrek,” ran out to a store down the street.

Torres said she heard her front door alarm go off and thought it was her husband coming home.

Within seconds, Torres realized it wasn’t her husband. Police said it was 20-year-old Adrian Ayala. Moments after she made eye contact with him, Torres said he asked if he could use the bathroom and then lunged at her.

Video shows struggle inside and outside home

Torres provided video from Arizona’s Family showing the timeline of events. The video shows Ayala walking up to her home.

Torres said they struggled on the floor of her kitchen and bathroom, and that Ayala hit her daughter too. Another clip shows Torres and Ayala struggling as the fight spills outside. She hits him and asks who he is and what he is doing. He doesn’t respond. Then Ayala is heard saying he’s on drugs.

Torres’ husband then pulls up, speeds the car toward the scene, gets out and runs over to them. Ayala takes off, and her husband gets back in the car and chases him.

Torres said she can’t go into too much detail because the case is still open.

Attorney’s role-play claim disputed

In court, Ayala’s attorney said he was drawn to the home by Torres’ husband as some sort of “role play.” Torres said that is not true.

“I’ve never seen this person in my life. Neither has my partner. He (Ayala) was seen walking around other houses. I just got caught in the crossfire,” Torres said.

Elsewhere in the video, Torres is heard asking Ayala several times what her husband’s name is. He doesn’t answer.

A woman who called 911 wanted to stay off camera. She said she saw Ayala on other cameras walking around the neighborhood shortly before the incident.

“He was pacing back and forth,” she said.

She added that she believes the case has been portrayed incorrectly on social media. She disputed claims the incident was a role play gone wrong.

“No, no, absolutely not. I don’t think so. She was freaking out. She had all the marks on her neck and body,” the woman said.

Arrest and charges

Court records say Ayala was arrested at his home in Goodyear after a relative saw the video of the incident posted to social media. Ayala faces several charges, including sexual assault and burglary.
